The Bridge

A place for all the community

A place for everyone

We are already into January and earlier today (8th January) we celebrated twelfth night with ‘Wassail’ in the Pleasaunce Park. This medieval tradition has been adopted by the Friends of the Pleasaunce, to encourage fertility and a good harvest from our parks fruit trees. Local, spiced Kent Cider was being served along with entertainment from our own Greenwich Morris Dancers and live folk music to accompany the festivities.
It was a really good excuse for a get together on a mild but cloudy, Sunday afternoon in Jan, and we had a marvellous turn out. Lots of families enjoying the merriment and children keenly making their own celebratory crowns.

The Bridge, will yet again be transformed into a Santa’s Grotto for its annual Christmas event on Sunday 4th December 1.30-4.30pm. Father Christmas will be making his grand entrance on a surprise mode of transport at 1.45pm and will be welcoming children into the Grotto from 2pm. Children will also be able to write a letter to Father Christmas and have their photo taken. The local community choir will be carol singing around the Pleasaunce Park and Christmas refreshments will be provided by Friends of the Pleasaunce and Pistachios Cafe. There is no charge for this event, but as a self-funded, volunteer led centre, donations are always welcome and relied on to keep us going. We look forwards to seeing you all and welcoming you on the day.

Autumn 2016

We are delighted to announce the official opening of our beautiful new living Willow Arch in the grounds of The Bridge.  The willow arch has been a genuine collaboration of so many in the local community- all made possible in the first place through a generous gift from a local family, celebrating the christening of their child.  After careful thought and planning, The Bridge, approached the Parks department at Greenwich Council who kindly donated the willow rods, talented local metal craftsman Danny Herridge, who constructed the beautiful iron framework, and volunteers from local charitable keep fit group, GoodGym Greenwich, who came to the rescue with the challenging planting that was required!  GoodGym provide hands-on project support for not-for-profit groups and during two evening running sessions GoodGym Greenwich volunteers lifted, carried, dug, positioned and planted before continuing on their running route!

The willow arch has already been enjoyed by the many young children that love coming to The Bridge as well as children from Halstow Primary School that come here for their Forest School sessions.
